APC Awards Lifetime Achievement Award Posthumously to AMADAS Industries’ James C. Adams II
June 13, 2024 (Amelia Island, Fla.)—The American Peanut Council presented its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award during the annual USA Peanut Congress in Amelia Island, Florida. The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment and lasting contributions to both the peanut industry and the American Peanut Council.
This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award was presented posthumously to James C. Adams II, past Chairman of AMADAS Industries.
In 1963, Adams helped found Hobbs-Adams Engineering alongside his father and uncle. The company would later become AMADAS Industries and establish itself as the industry leader in peanut harvesting equipment.
Throughout his career, Adams pioneered and introduced numerous innovations that transformed peanut harvesting while improving efficiency across the industry. Among those innovations were the peanut digger/inverter, which allowed peanuts to dry more quickly in the field; disc separator technology, which expanded harvesting capabilities across a wider range of soil moisture conditions; and, through a joint venture with John Deere, development of the world’s largest self-propelled peanut combine.
Adams also played a major role in the evolution of peanut harvesting equipment, helping guide the transition from stationary peanut combines to two-row pull-type combines, and later to four-row and six-row harvesting systems.
Under his leadership, Hobbs-Adams Engineering grew into AMADAS Industries. Today, more than half of all peanuts harvested throughout the Americas are harvested using AMADAS equipment and systems.
James C. Adams II passed away in 2023. His son, Jimmy Adams, President and CEO of AMADAS Industries, accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of his father and family during the ceremony.
